Icon of History has no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies. Here is everything it keeps, and where.
In your browser
Your games and stats are saved in your browser’s local storage, so you can pick up where you left off. They never leave your device. A cookie called ioh-lang remembers whether you chose English or Spanish, for a year. Clearing your site data removes all of it.
Game results
When you finish a game, the server records the date, the language and the hint you solved it on (or that you ran out of hints). Nothing else: no name, no IP address, no player ID and none of your guesses. These counts make “Everyone today” and help us spot hints that are too hard or too easy.
The daily reminder
If you turn on “Remind me each day”, we store the push address your browser gives us, with its encryption keys and your language, so we can send one notification a day. The notification goes through your browser’s push service (for example Apple, Google or Mozilla). Turn it off on the end screen and the address is deleted at once. If you block notifications or clear your site data instead, it is deleted the next time the push service tells us it no longer works.
Page views
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views, which pages are visited and the type of device. It uses no cookies and does not identify you.
Who handles the data
The site is hosted by Vercel and the game data is stored with Supabase, both of which may process it outside the EU. Like any web host, Vercel keeps short-lived server logs that include IP addresses, to run and secure the service.
Changes and contact
If ads, accounts or anything else that uses your data arrive, this page will change first, and you will be asked where the law requires it. Questions about your data: write to us on Instagram or X.
